Heat the olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add the tomatoes and saute for a couple of minutes. Then add a little salt and pepper, the balsamic vinegar, and garlic powder (or fresh garlic, if using). Stir occasionally.
In the meantime, toast the bread in a pan, oven, or toaster.
Once the tomato mixture is cooked down and has lost most of its liquid, remove the skillet from the heat. Top the toast with the mixture and sprinkle with the fresh basil. Enjoy immediately.
