    Why you'll love this recipe

    • You only need baby carrots, olive oil, and salt and pepper to make it, but you can add additional herbs and spices to suit your taste.
    • It only tastes 20 minutes.
    • It pairs well with everything from pasta to vegan meatloaf to rice pilaf.

    Ingredients

Bag of baby carrots, salt and pepper shakers, and a bottle of olive oil.

For the complete list of ingredients with measurements plus recipe instructions, please see the recipe card at the bottom of this post.

Baby carrots: If you only have full-sized carrots, you can peel and cut them into smaller pieces to make this recipe. Try to cut them in uniform sizes so they cook evenly.

    Instructions

Numbered steps for making this recipe: 1, a mixing bowl with the carrots, olive oil, salt and pepper, 2, the ingredients tossed together, 3, the carrots in an air fryer basket, and 4, the finished carrots.
    1. Remove the baby carrots from the bag and pat them dry. Place them in a large mixing bowl and add the olive oil, salt, and pepper.
    2. Toss well with your hands so that the carrots are evenly coated.
    3. Place in the air fryer basket or tray.
    4. Air fry, tossing halfway though, until fork tender.

    Amy's tip

Air fryer cooking times vary from model to model. The 15 minute cooking time is an approximation. It never hurts to check for doneness a few times while the carrots are cooking.

    Variations

Make this recipe your own by adding optional herbs and spices along with the salt and pepper like one or more of the following:

    • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
    • ½ teaspoon dried dill
    • ½ ground sumac
    • ¼ teaspoon ground cumin
    • ½ teaspoon curry powder, garam masala, ras el hanout, or your favorite spice blend
    • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
    • a few pinches of cinnamon or nutmeg

    Serving suggestions

This carrot side dish goes well with a variety of dishes from pasta to vegan meatloaf to basmati rice pilaf.

You can also top air fried carrots with a creamy sauce like tahini dressing or vegan Greek yogurt sauce. Then add a sprinkling of pistachios, pumpkin seeds, or pomegranate arils.

Or add some of the carrots to a buddha bowl or burrito bowl.

    Storing

Leftover air fried baby carrots can be covered and refrigerated for 3 to 4 days. Enjoy them cold or reheated.

    FAQ

Are baby carrots just cut regular carrots?

The baby carrots sold in bags in supermarkets are actually peeled and cut regular adult carrots. Machines cut them into 2-inch segments and rounds the edges.

    Why are baby carrots wet?

Baby carrots are packed in a little water to prevent them from drying out.

Do you need to peel baby carrots?

Baby carrots are already washed and peeled when you purchase them in a bag.
