Vegan Tofu Feta is a delicious dairy-free alternative to traditional feta cheese. It's easy to make this marinated tofu with only 4 ingredients. Add it to salads or enjoy it as a snack with other Mediterranean favorites!

Bowls of tofu feta, grape tomatoes, and olives.

While tofu feta may not taste exactly like traditional feta cheese, it's a delicious dairy-free alternative that's easy to make at home with whole-food plant-based ingredients.

Enjoy it in a Vegan Greek Salad. Or add it to a mezze platter with hummus with sesame seeds, veggie kabobs, and olives.

If you're looking for an alternative to store-bought vegan feta cheese made with oils, this recipe is for you.

    Why you'll love this recipe

    • You can make it with only 4 ingredients.
    • It doesn't require any cooking, only marinating.
    • You can add the tofu feta cubes to salads or enjoy them as a protein-rich snack.

    Ingredients

Block of tofu, jars of salt and oregano, and bottle of coconut vinegar.

Extra-firm tofu: Do not use shelf-stable silken tofu for this recipe. Look for refrigerated extra-firm tofu packed in water, which you will need to drain and press.

However, if available, I recommend using super-firm tofu that is vacuum-packed and already pressed. My favorites are Hodo Organic Tofu and Trader Joe's (which I suspect may be relabeled Wildwood Organic) High Protein Super Firm Tofu.

Coconut vinegar: Made from the sap of coconut blossoms, it doesn't actually taste like coconut. It's mild and less acidic than apple cider vinegar.

Coconut vinegar is a key ingredient for making tofu feta and should not be substituted.

While I usually buy Coconut Secret brand, if you can't find it, I recommend buying Dynamic Health brand which is available on Amazon.

    Dynamic Health Coconut Vinegar

    • Made from organic raw coconut tree sap.
    • Low glycemic and contains trace amounts of naturally-occurring amino acids, vitamins, and minerals.
    • Non-GMO, vegan, and gluten-free.

    Instructions

Tofu cubes in a bowl, seasonings added to the tofu, and the tofu marinating in a bowl with a lid.
    1. Cut the tofu into small cubes and place them in a resealable container.
    2. Add the coconut vinegar, oregano, and salt.
    3. Shake to combine the ingredients, then cover and refrigerate the tofu for at least 2 hours to marinate.

    Amy's tip

For maximum flavor, allow the tofu feta to marinate overnight or longer.

    Serving suggestions

Greek salad made with tofu feta, tomatoes, red onions, cucumbers, and Kalamata olives.

Tofu feta is delicious in salads like Greek Millet Salad, Vegan Orzo Salad, and Tomato Basil Cucumber Salad.

Plus it's a must in a Vegan Greek Salad with tomatoes, cucumbers, bell peppers, red onions, and Kalamata olives. And don't forget the 3 ingredient Greek Salad Dressing.

Or keep some in the fridge for a healthy vegan Mediterranean diet snack.

    Storing

Store the tofu feta in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days.

    FAQ

Does tofu need to be cooked?

According to Healthline, "Tofu is technically a cooked food that can be cooked again at home, but it doesn’t have to be. Tofu is an inexpensive, nutritious plant protein that requires minimal preparation and is easy to add to recipes and meals."

Does coconut vinegar need to be refrigerated?

Coconut vinegar can be stored at room temperature.

Is coconut vinegar the same as coconut aminos?

Coconut vinegar is made from the sap of coconut blossoms. Coconut aminos, which can be used as a substitute for soy sauce, is made with coconut vinegar, coconut nectar, onion, garlic, and salt.

Normally I would offer substitutions, but in this particular case, coconut vinegar is necessary to make the tofu feta. You can buy coconut vinegar online from Amazon and iHerb.

Hi Bernadette! Great question. This is a rare occasion where I don't think there is a good substitute. The coconut vinegar gives the tofu the most feta-like flavor (and doesn't taste at all like coconut). I hope you give it a try. Coconut vinegar is also delicious as an oil-free salad dressing, and you can also use it to make your own stir-fry sauce.
