Bring a large pot of water and the salt to a boil. Cook the spaghetti according to the package directions. Drain and transfer it to a large serving bowl.
1 Tablespoon salt, 12-16 ounces spaghetti
Heat the olive oil in a small sauce pan over medium heat. Add the garlic and crushed red chili flakes (if using). Quickly stir and remove from the heat when the garlic is fragrant and appears lightly browned. This should take less than a minute. Do not allow the garlic to burn.
