Take the stress out of shopping this season with this guide featuring the best vegan-friendly holiday gifts. You'll find everything from shoes and accessories to kitchen gadgets and stocking stuffers.
What do you give a vegan for Christmas?
This is a question I'm often asked. And you know what the answer is? Vegans love the same things everyone does, as long as they don't contain animal products.
For example, when I became vegan, I stopped buying clothes, shoes, and cosmetics made from animal materials. But I didn't give up my love of wearing cute outfits and pretty make up. I simply read the labels before purchasing products, just like I do for food.
And buying holiday gifts for your loved ones who are vegan doesn't have to be difficult. These days there are a wide variety of options that are easy to find at local shops and online.
Want to buy vegan-friendly presents from independently owned shops instead of Amazon? This list of my favorite small online businesses is for you.
Holiday Gifts for the Fashion-Loving Vegan
While vegans don't wear leather, wool, silk, or other materials derived from animals, that doesn't mean they can't be fashionable. In fact, some of today's shoes and accessories are made by the world's top designers.
I discovered the Melie Bianco brand of vegan purses a couple of years ago and rotate between the two bags I own. Not only do I get tons of compliments on them, even from people who wear leather, they are as durable as they are stylish. If this style isn't what you're looking for, they have everything from mini crossbody bags to large totes in a wide variety of colors and finishes.
Dr. Martens (aka "Docs") is an English footwear company known for their boots with yellow stitching. While traditionally made from leather, they now offer vegan versions of their popular shoes. The Doc Martens Vegan 1460 is a beloved style available in smooth black, as shown above, as well as cherry red and metallic.
Socks have always been popular as holiday gifts. And these veggie ones are sure to spark joy for anyone who receives them. I have a similar pair that makes me happy whenever I wear them.
Food and Drink Holiday Gifts for Vegans
Everyone loves getting treats for Christmas and Hannukah, and vegans are no exception. But be sure to read the ingredients lists carefully to insure they are vegan-friendly. Or save some time by purchasing snacks that are labeled as safe for vegans.
Not only are all the vegan snacks in this assortment delicious, they are free from artificial colors, flavors, and preservatives. Who wouldn't enjoy receiving a big box of yummy treats?
I love how cute this mug is, and it's the perfect vehicle for giving your friends and family homemade treats. For example, you can make some vegan hot chocolate mix and put it in a cellophane baggie. Then print out the instruction card that comes with this recipe and put it inside the mug with the cocoa mix. What a fun gift!
Kitchen Holidays Gifts
White not all vegans enjoy cooking, most enjoy eating delicious plant-based foods. These gifts are helpful for anyone looking to make their life a little easier in the kitchen.
While I've included this book in the kitchen section, my copy has a permanent home on my bedroom nightstand. I love Colleen Patrick-Goudreau's essays, observations, and recipes. While you can read a page a day for a year, I often flip open a page randomly and devour her words.
While technically you can use kitchen towels and a brick or heavy book to press the excess liquid from a block of tofu, it's so much easier with this simple inexpensive tool. I use mine whenever I make recipes like Breakfast Tofu and Baked Tofu Steaks. I don't know how I got by without it!
One thing I've noticed over the years is that vegans really enjoy tacos. But when you're making more than one or two, it's important to keep the tortillas warm so they stay pliable and don't fall apart when you pick up your taco. That's why I use this insulated cloth tortilla warmer whenever I make anything with tortillas.
The instructions say to use it in the microwave, but my preferred method is to heat the tortillas in a skillet on the stove, and then transfer them to the fabric pouch. They stay warm for an hour, which is perfect for when you're eating Vegan Fajitas.
Vegan Stocking Stuffers
These little holiday gifts are sure to be loved by the vegans in your life when they find them in their Christmas stockings. And since they come in multiples, you'll have enough to give several people without spending much money.
For less than $2 each, you can give everyone on your list a biodegradable and compostable bamboo toothbrush. And the soft bristles are like a massage for your mouth.
Everyone needs lip balm, and these ones from Hurrah! are vegan, cruelty-free, organic, and feel amazing on my lips. Plus they come in a variety of delicious scents like black cherry, chai spice, and almond.
