Celebrate the holidays California-style with this easy Vegan Mexican Christmas Eve menu plan featuring vegan tamales and colorful festive side dishes.
Growing up, my family generally ate at an ethnic restaurant on Christmas, then went to the movies.
Sometimes we had Chinese or Indian, but our favorite was Mexican.
A local chain advertised they were open Christmas Day, and they did great business.
One holiday season, none of my family was around for the holidays, so some friends invited me over for Christmas Eve.
They served tamales which they ordered from a local restaurant, and it was the perfect holiday meal!
Even if you don’t live in California, why not enjoy a Mexican feast sure to please everyone’s palate?
Let’s make a Vegan Mexican Christmas Eve dinner!
While you may serve margaritas, your guests may also enjoy a warming traditional Mexican beverage.
I love how festive both Mexican Christmas Punch (Ponche Navideno Mexicano) and Vegan Champurrado (Mexican Hot Chocolate) are.
And obviously it wouldn’t be a Mexican feast without some guacamole, am I right?
I enjoy Pomegranate Guacamole for the holidays because it looks just like Christmas with it’s red and green.
Another dip I recommend is my friend Jenn’s Creamy Cranberry Salsa Dip from her site Veggie Inspired.
Isn’t that color gorgeous?
Another appetizer that’s always a hit in my house is ceviche.
But I’m not talking fish.
Next comes Mexican Christmas Eve Salad.
It’s so colorful and naturally sweet and crunchy.
And now it’s time to talk tamales.
If you have the time, grab some friends and family and have a tamale-making party!
You can learn all about how to make them in the book Vegan Tamales Unwrapped: A Step-by-Step Guide to Savory and Sweet Tamales by Dora Stone of the site Dora’s Table.
Dora is an expert when it comes to tamales and all things Mexican.
Her Vegan Potato Adobo Tamales are perfect for our holiday meal.
But if you’re pressed for time, check your local farmers market or specialty market for vegan tamales.
All you have to do is steam them when you get home.
Did you save room for dessert?
I sure hope so!
Craving something chocolaty?
Vegan Bunuelos and Chocolate Sauce from Veggieful.com is the perfect way to end the meal.
