Strawberry Matcha Latte in a glass with a straw with fresh strawberries next to it and text overlay Strawberry Matcha Latte.

Layers of fresh strawberry puree, non-dairy milk, and vivid green tea come together to create this refreshing iced Strawberry Matcha Latte. So skip the Starbucks and enjoy this lightly sweetened tea drink that's easy to make in 5 simple steps with only a handful of ingredients.

Strawberry Matcha Latte in a tall glass with a straw with fresh strawberries next to it and a tin of green tea powder.

Matcha green tea powder is a popular ingredient used to flavor everything from chia pudding and overnight oats to baked goods and ice cream.

But perhaps one of the best ways to enjoy this green tea powder is in an iced cold Strawberry Matcha Latte, which is a variation on my Oat Milk Matcha Latte recipe.

You may have seen beverages like this at popular coffee houses and tea shops like Boba Guys. But they are incredibly easy to make at home without refined sugars.

    Why you'll love this recipe

    • It's easy to make in 5 minutes with only 4 ingredients, plus hot water and ice.
    • You can customize the level of sweetness to suit your taste buds.
    • The layered effect makes this cold drink as gorgeous to look at as it is delicious.

    Ingredients

Labeled ingredients needed to make this recipe: Strawberries, non-dairy milk, pure maple syrup, and matcha powder.

Matcha Green Tea Powder: I recommend Golde Pure Matcha. Since it's ceremonial grade, it's less bitter and has a deep verdant color. Use my affiliate code VEGGIES5 for $5 off your first order.

For the complete list of ingredients with measurements plus recipe instructions, please see the recipe card at the bottom of this post.

    Instructions

Collage of 4 numbered images showing how to make this recipe.
    1. Prepare the matcha by whisking the powder with hot water (approximately 175°F/80°C) in a small bowl or cup. Make sure no clumps remain.
    2. Puree the strawberries and pure maple syrup in a blender.
    3. Add the strawberry mixture to the bottom of a tall glass and top with ice.
    4. Pour the plant milk over the ice.
Step number 5 showing finished latte with a straw and strawberry garnish.

    5. Give the prepared matcha tea a quick stir, then pour it over the milk. Grab a straw and enjoy!

    Equipment

While it's traditional to use a bamboo whisk to blend the powder with the hot water, if you don't have one, a small stainless steel whisk or even a fork will work.

In addition, if you don't have a blender to make the strawberry puree, a food processor can be used instead. Or simply mash the strawberries and maple syrup by hand with a potato masher, fork, or muddler.

    Variations and substitutions

This easy vegan iced matcha latte recipe can be customized to suit your tastes.

    • For an extra caffeine boost, use two teaspoons of matcha powder instead of one.
    • Try it with your favorite fresh fruits such as blueberries, raspberries, mango, or pineapple. Or use a combination of two fruits.
    • For a fruit-sweetened version, substitute a Medjool date or two soaked in hot water in place of the pure maple syrup.
    • Use your favorite liquid sweetener such as agave nectar, brown rice syrup, or monk fruit.
    • While I recommend using unsweetened organic soy milk or oat milk, you can also use almond milk, coconut milk, or your favorite non-dairy milk.
    • Add boba tapioca pearls to the bottom of the glass to make it a strawberry matcha latte bubble tea.

    Serving suggestions

You can enjoy a strawberry matcha latte any time of day. However, since it does contain caffeine, you may want to sip one in the morning with breakfast or early afternoon as a pick-me-up with a snack like No Bake Pumpkin Balls.

    • Plate of silken tofu scramble, toast, and tomato and avocado slices.

    • Plate with avocado toast and lemon wedge
      Quick Cherry Tomato Avocado Toast
    • Plate of blistered Shishito peppers with pink salt, soy sauce, and lemon on the side
      Air Fryer Shishito Peppers
    • Bowl of Hearts of Palm Ceviche with tortilla chips and a spoon on the side.
      Hearts of Palm Ceviche

    Storing

While matcha lattes are best enjoyed right away, you can prepare the strawberry puree in advance and store it covered and refrigerated for up to 5 days.

Or if you have strawberries you don't want to go to waste, you can make a batch of puree and freeze it for up to 5 months. Defrost it in the refrigerator overnight before using it in a latte.

    FAQ

    What is matcha powder?

Matcha powder is a type of green tea. Young tea leaves are ground into a powder, which can then be whisked with hot water to form a tea. This is different from regular green tea which is made by drying the tea leaves which are then steeped in hot water and removed. With matcha powder you are consuming the whole leaves rather than steeping them in water and then discarding them.

What is the difference between ceremonial matcha and culinary matcha?

Ceremonial matcha is made with younger tea leaves than culinary matcha. While both can be used for beverages, ceremonial matcha has a more vibrant color and tends to be less bitter than culinary matcha.

    Is matcha healthy?

According to Healthline's 7 Proven Ways Matcha Tea Improves Your Health, matcha green tea is high in antioxidants, may help protect the liver, boosts brain function, may help prevent cancer, may promote heart health, helps you lose weight, and more. In addition, matcha's high concentrations of flavonoids and L-theanine produce relaxing effects by raising serotonin and dopamine levels.
